Is it effective or appropriate to use rewards as a motivational strategy

Back in high school, I really struggled with school, I hated studying and didn’t do well. My sister was super focused and always on top of things. She used to buy me little rewards when I got good grades and honestly, it helped. I ended up graduating.

Now my niece is in college and hitting a rough patch. She was great in high school, but now she’s having a hard time keeping up.

Is there a better way to support her?

Do you think offering her rewards like my sister did for me could help or would that be overstepping?
